HWC 415 - Integrating Seminar I
The first course of a two-semester sequence (HWC 415 and HWC 416 ) for senior BSW students, it is designed to integrate the knowledge and values acquired through the curriculum with the experience gained in the practicum placement. The seminar will identify and clarify the values, ethics, and principles relevant to the profession of social work and the mission of the school. Issues related to culturally sensitive practice as well as those issues that affect historically oppressed and devalued groups in our society will be explored.
The students will expand their ability to see the connection between working effectively with client systems and how political and economic decisions locally, nationally, and globally affect the delivery of service and the people using these services. This course will be integral in assisting students to integrate the skills and knowledge that have been and are being learned through classes and what is being learned in practicum placement. The professional development of the student from the introduction and study of the Social Work Code of Ethics to the application of social work values, skills and knowledge will be explored and shared collectively. The professional future of the students will be addressed in terms of preparation, practice and experience with regard to specific career and educational opportunities.
