The PhD program in the School of Social Welfare prepares the next generation of scholars and educators grounded in advanced data collection methods, with an emphasis on the social determinants of health, research on ameliorating racial, ethnic, and identity-based disparities in access to quality treatment, and policy-based solutions.

Degree Requirements

One year in residence -
Satisfactory completion of all coursework (54 credits) -
Satisfactory completion of research and teaching practicum -
Successful completion of the qualifying exam -
Successful completion of dissertation proposal -
Advancement to candidacy -
Successful completion and defense of dissertation Note
Students must form a committee prior to registering for HWC 615 and 616, as the committee will guide the preparation and defense of the qualifying exam and proposal. Students will advance to candidacy after the successful completion of the qualifying exam and proposal. |
