HDI 505 - Patient I: Communication and Examination The purpose of this course is to provide students with an introduction to patient-centered clinical dental care. The first unit focuses on communication strategies and developing rapport, and introduces students to psychosocial factors that influence the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of oral diseases. The second unit provides an introduction to the clinical setting with instruction in electronic record, patient charting, infection control procedures, and HIPPA and OSHA policies. Simulation sessions will provide students the opportunity to practice clinical procedures and protocol and prepare them for patient care in the Clinic I course.
