HAN 486 - Principles and Practice of Radiation Therapy


Provides students with a history and introduction to the practice and technical aspects of radiation therapy. An overview of cancer to include the following: statistics, epidemiology, etiology, patient education and assessment and pharmacology and drug administration. Radiation therapy techniques specific to anatomical sites will be demonstrated and treatment outcome statistics discussed. Additionally, treatment options available to cancer patients will be explored. The lab component, the application of radiation therapy as a primary treatment modality for various cancers will be studied. Restricted to students approved for appropriate senior year concentration of study in the Health Science major.
