Explores major themes of medical care and illness as presented in works of poetry, prose, and drama. Includes personal and ethical dilemmas confronted by doctors; special characteristics and discourse of the medical setting; the experience of being ill; philosophical, social, and spiritual dimensions of the clinical encounter; and the search for meanings in medical events.
