HWC 611 - Knowledge Building in Social Work: The Philosophy of Applied Social Research An examination of the major currents of thought that shape the meta-theoretical, theoretical, and methodological issues related to knowledge building in social work. The impact of pragmatic philosophy on the current “science versus non- science” debate within social work is reviewed. Special attention is given to epistemological approaches and their relation to qualitative and quantitative research strategies.
