AFS 560 - Sexualities: African and Caribbean Perspectives This seminar is designed to introduce students to the complexities of human sexuality from a perspective that places subaltern individuals at the center of the analysis. It locates these individuals, and their sexual practices, in the Tropics (particularly in Africa and the Caribbean) first in those man-made communities where sexuality was one of the (unspoken) exigencies of the slave and colonial economies, and later in the modern era where these economies have given way to neo-colonies.
