HAS 360 - Beyond Limitations: Introduction to Adaptive Sports This course is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation to the student regarding the history, future direction, and various types of adapted sport and therapeutic recreation activities that exist for individuals with chronic disease and disability. Students will master general rules, classifications, and modifications for maximum inclusion for sport, physical activity, and recreation for children and adults of all ages and disabilities to emphasize full potential in life. Students will have opportunities to be immersed in off site experiences that highlight the capabilities of people seen to have disabilities or limitations. Specific sports and therapeutic recreation opportunities will be experienced hands-on by the student. The student will be able to critically discuss issues surrounding adapted sport, as well as sufficiently design programs and modify physical activity, sport, and therapeutic recreation by developing an inclusive philosophy and atmosphere in programs.
