AAS 574 - Accent and Language Justice This course examines what accent discrimination entails and who it affects. Students will engage in critical analysis of the multifaceted issues surrounding “speaking with an accent”, with special attention to Asian and Asian American communities in the U.S. Drawing on research and methodologies from linguistics, sociology, and psychology, students are expected to uncover the systemic barriers that contribute to linguistic inequality and explore potential strategies for promoting language justice and inclusivity.
